Merry Christmas Everyone!
I don't remember ever going to visit Santa and take pictures with him when i was little - I suppose Asian parents don't really think there's much point to the whole hoopla. I mean if you think about it, it is pretty annoying. Standing in a big long line, paying an arm and a leg for a few pictures, and braving the germs on Santa's gloves and beard is enough to call the whole thing off. You can call it an eagerness to partaken in holiday tradition, or even call it an affinity towards taking pleasure in placing your children in hilarious situations for your own entertainment. hehe Ah, so much fun.
This year, we learned from last year and took Avery to see Santa earlier in the season so to avoid a 2 hour wait. We decided that our Santa from last year at the Brea Mall was still the best looking Santa compared to most other ones, so we went back to him again. But this year, Avery was not as cooperative on Santa's lap, obviously more aware than last year. Thus, the picture below:
Hehe. Aww.
But it was fine - I reminded her to give Santa a 'high-five' which promptly followed this one:
BAM! High Five, Santa! After that, she was pretty cool with him, staring at him intently while I chose which over-priced shots to buy. Santa gave her a balloon candy thing, which she was happy about.
So I realize that I have not blogged for 3 weeks, and I can explain. Its because Howard and I went to Kauai! You can see pics here. Good times!
Once we were back, it was a quick week of holiday festivities. Lets see what Avery has been up to!
Gardening!
Our babysitter Diana, a wonderful lady with 3 grandkids of her own, loves gardening, and has turned an otherwise dead and barren patch of dirt in our backyard into a little garden with budding garlic, sweet potato leaves, and I think jalapenos. I am amazed. She even brought my almost-dead sweet basil back to life. I am putting her in charge of the arugula and zucchini (? is it?) sprouts that Chris gave me in a pot. Because if she doesn't do it, they will just die in my hands, I'm sure of it.
Entertaining guests!
We had Jasmine and her folks Jerome, Maria and Blanca over at our house on Wednesday to hang out. Its been almost 2 months since we saw them! Jasmine is probably atleast a pound heavier than Avery now. She eats much better than Avery does, I can tell because she was pretty psyched over the buttered pasta I gave the girls, where as Avery just kinda nibbled a few strands and pushed the rest around her table. -_- They ended up taking a bath together - naked babies running around - soOO CUTE!! Funny moment was when Avery watched as Maria poured a cup of water over Jasmine's head to wash her hair. Avery hates water on her head, so when she saw the water pouring down on Jasmine head, trickling down her face, she made a sound like OOH! along with a dirty look like "UGH! How can you let her do that!?" lol. Avery can learn a thing or two from Jasmine!
Enjoying early presents! Daddy puts together the slide that Uncle Henry sent over. Avery waits rather impatiently.
Her very own art table from Auntie Cindy and Uncle Kevin!
Avery woke up to Auntie Cindy and Uncle Kevin in the guest room, which made her super excited. She immediately sat down on their bed and showed off her bassinet nearby which plays baby songs, pushing buttons and swaying left to right. I think she uses that bassinet even more now than she did when she was a newborn. She learned the word "Auntie" right then and there. After months of trying to get her to say Auntie without results, all it took was her sitting on the bed with them, and I said "Can you say Auntie?" and she said "Autie!" done deal. hehe She already knows how to say Uncle, because it sounds just like "Agong" which is grandpa in chinese. She actually knows the difference between Uncle and Agong, but it sounds exactly the same when she says it. hehe
Thursday evening was Christmas Eve dinner for 13, and our team really outdid ourselves this year. Team - Ruby: Prime Rib & Corn/Mushroom/truffleoil pasta. Cindy and Kevin: Live Crab boiled in beer, sauteed wild mushrooms, sauteed spinach. Salad. Grilled Corn on the cob. Two slabs of sashimi. Howard: Watching Avery, and Clean-Up.(with a capital C and U. I'm talkin like a few hours of solid dish-washing yo. GOod work Everyone!)
What a sight to see! I can't believe I didn't think of this in the previous years. Christmas is crab season. 99 Ranch was rocking massive tubs of live crabs waiting for the picking. It was a great call by Kevin. My prime rib came out very well too, considering the internal thermometer did not beep and alert me when it reached the targeted temperature (125 degrees, carry-over heat gets it up to 133 for medium rare) and I didn't catch it until it got up to 131, and got up to 140 by the time it was serving time, Boo! Medium tasted alright too.
Avery and her Auntie Cindy. Two peas in a pod. :)
Hanging out with Emily at her art table. Avery likes to draw while holding excessive amounts of crayons on each hand. She has quite a bit of an obsesssion with the "ma"s. She calls them "ma" for marker, which I have for her in the bathtub. Still hasn't said 'Crayon" yet.
Hippo car from Uncle John and Auntie Elaine. SWEET!
Adorable umbrella from Great Auntie Lyn. SO CUTE!!
Chang Gang!
Shih Unit!
Sporting Auntie Tomi and Uncle Chris's present. She is soooooo cute in it. The poor kid. She was trying unsuccessfully to poop all day today. After some grapes and a bottle of milk, I put her into this dress, button up all the buttons, pull up the BabyLegs socks, then what happens? Poop. But it was sad, she was kind of backed up all day so it hurt coming out. I had been taking pics of her and snapped them up coincidentally. Its so sad! As you can see on the above picture which took place after the pooping, she was in good spirits soon after the incident. With a sweaty head. Poor thing.
Merry Christmas!!
