Avery at 18 months

This morning was Avery's 18 month appointment at the pediatrician's office. I brought her into the office, and I gave her her sippy cup and asked her to go sit on the chair and wait for me as I signed her in and paid the copay. She sat quietly, looking around, before she realized where she was and started moaning Nooo...Nooooo...noooo. Then we were called into the room, where she definitely remembered and started objecting maniacally to the nurse's attempts to get her heart rate and get her measurements. YEESH! She would NOT have it! All this and she hadn't even had the shot yet. Then while we were waiting for the doctor, we could hear the toddler next door screaming bloody murder, which made Avery whimper uncomfortably. Oh dear!

I distracted her with some iPhone apps for a while, before she didn't want that either. Good thing Daddy dropped by the office on the way to work to play with her. He had to come because I didn't bring cash for the copay and they don't take credit cards -_-.

Seriously, this kid is 18 months already? I feel like her 1st bday party was only last month. These 6 months have definitely whizzed by quickly. Here are her stats:

Avery at 18 months:

Head Circumference: 19 inches  90th percentile
Height: 32 inches 75th percentile
Weight: 23lbs 14oz smidge below 50th percentile

Basically, she's following the same curve for 9 months now. Lollipop!

Milestones:

Naptime: She started transitioning from 2 naps to 1 nap a day around 13 months. By the time she was 15 months, she was only napping once a day, about 2-3 hours at a time. 4 hours if she's really wiped out.

- follows directions like "put your dirty clothes in the basket" and "give *so and so* a kiss", give so and so a high five, clap your hands, shake your rattle, put your crayons on your table, go down the slide, etc.

- can point out many body parts, like hair, head, eyes, nose, mouth, hands, feet, etc

- words include: Mama dada, Agong Ama, Azo (great grandma), Auntie, Uncle, Water, Kate (hehe), Car, Bye Bye, Hi, Ball, Water and many chinese words like Ju-zi (orange), Pu-tao (grape. it comes out sounding like pu-pao), Xie Xie (shoes, and thankyou), shui jiao (sleep), shi zhao (bath). She says alot of words that sounds close, like Orange, she says Oju. She likes to repeat words that we say, but not as likely to remember them. Sometimes she does. We noticed she seems to pick up chinese words alot faster, maybe the phoenetic sounds makes it easier?

-Dances on command. High Fives and kisses on command. Although lately she's begun objecting to giving high five to strangers. Ah, no fun!

-Still can't distinguish between colors. When asked "What color is this?" she answers "blue" for everything. And when you try to correct her "that's Red!" she will say "red". or "that's Green!" she says "gween" but quickly forgets it. The next minute, she'll pick up a blue crayon and say "red!" and get frustrated if we keep correcting her. haha

-really enjoys music. She likes her music class that her grandma takes her to each Tuesday.

Happy 18 months, Avery!
