Avery goes to class

Avery's been going through this phase where she'll cry when she's in large social gatherings and the noise level is too high. When someone laughs in front of her, she starts crying. Or when there are alot of people in front of her at once, she'll get overwhelmed too. So I decided to take her to our local brand new library that offers free kiddie classes, even for little babies!

Upon our (late, oops) entrance, all the mommies and kids were sitting indian-style around the instructor, toys and balls strewn across the room. We took off our shoes (well, just me) and took our seat next to Elaine and Kate, who upon seeing Avery, exclaimed, BABY AVERY! and ran up to give her a hug! She's such a sweetie, way too smart of a cookie! Not sure what I'll do if Avery is as smart as she is at her age; I don't even know how to answer half the questions Kate asks me at 21 months!

The first 10 minutes, Avery was really overwhelmed - crying toddler to the left, loud instructions coming from the teacher, and all these people surrounding her. She was on the verge of crying. Then she saw a kid playing with a toy, was completely enthralled, then took off out of my lap and made a beeline towards it. Then as she was playing, she looked over at me and smiled at her Mommy. *OOF my heart*
Hey Mommy! This is fun!
Kate plants a kiss on Avery's cheek. Avery obliges, puts her toy on hold. HehTaking in the sights and sounds at the playtime.

So next came ball time - everyone sits around in a circle and rolls balls around, passing it from one side to the other. Except, for Avery, it was more like chasing balls across the room, and then holding on to them and not passing it around.
There she goes again, taking off away from Mommy.

Then she takes a spot around the circle and plays with a ball next to her new friends. She doesn't forget her Mommy though - smiles for the camera. *DOUBLE OOF*

They say that at 10 months, babies play with toys by themselves, and tend not to interact with other kids. But Avery is actually more intrigued with whatever toy that someone else is playing, and will go up and steal/play with it too. Funny that most of the other kids were already able to walk and run around, so when Avery had a ball in her hand, some toddler would come up and take it from her and run away. Avery would be a little confused "...what?... the?" and after a few times, she started getting angry. haha "Wait till I can walk too, you guys! Then I'll show you!"

Here's a video of her in class.

She's thinking: Hey I know this song! And then dances a little bit. hehe

She definitely learns from playing with others. Must find more places for her to socialize with other kids.
