We found a parking spot easily enough, then took our spot in the back of the line, which stretched down the block. Avery immediately wanted to get out of the stroller and start socializing. She started with the guy and girl standing in front of us.
"Hi!!" Avery smiles and waves
'Hi!' waves guy and girl.
Theres two kinds of people to Avery. Ones that easily smile at her, others who take a little longer. She always gets her smile one way or another. lol.
The guy, Quoc, turns out to be a professional photographer who asks me "Are those the new Stella McCartney Baby Gap Jeans?" He took me by surprise, because I did learn about Stella McCartney's collection for Baby Gap and thought it was super cute. Usually I am not that cool as to be aware of all the new trends and such, but in this case I did. hehe Actually no they are not the Stella McCartney jeans, but I definitely need to get that for her!! But honestly, these gray distressed skinnies are so super cute I don't see how I need to get the stellas too.
He asked us if he can take pictures of Avery and we obliged. You can tell he's good with shooting kids. Avery smiled and looked at him curiously, posing and proceeding her quest to high-five everyone in the line within a 5 foot radius. She was pretty much just holding out her hand and waiting for people to come and high five it. I love that she has zero shyness, zero sense of self-consciousness that I would have been at that age. Even the ones who don't really want to high five her, she wears them down, smiling and walking towards them until they smile and give her a five. Really, who can resist a fuzzy toddler wearing skinny jeans with a giant smile on her face holding out a five? heh

We were in line for half an hour before someone came down from the front telling anyone who wanted to see just the exhibit or the cafe to go ahead and go up to the front. I guess everyone else was just waiting to get into the gift shop to buy the collectibles? WOW!
Its amazing. I mean, a cute character that someone drew on a whim, and 30 years later, an empire has been made around Hello Kitty, with its own cult-like following, transcending mere merchandise to become an icon of lifestyle and fashion. There were people dressed up to the T in hello kitty gear, wearing diamond encrusted eyelashes, giant bows in their hair, 4 inch stilettos. Almost looked like I was stepping into Harajuku district of Tokyo again. Almost. Those chicks on Takashimaya street were so done- up in their costumes, I could have been on a Disneyland parade route, except with Cosplay. All the Hello Kitty lovers descending on this gallery to pay homage to the original chick of Cuteness. It was awesome!

We even took a picture with Hello Kitty herself, in her very own hot air balloon! fancy that! Avery didn't realize what it was until after Howard took this picture, when she did a double-take and whipped her head around to avoid the giant Kitty, like WWAAHTT IS THAT.
It really is inspiring. I have to admit the reason why we went was to see what was the commotion and what we got out of it was that we can see the big picture of what Angry Little Girls can aspire to be one day. I'm not going to compare ALG to Hello Kitty, because HK has had 30 years to build so many dimensions of character that I don't think any other character would be able to replicate. But seeing the HK cafe with people having afternoon tea and coffee with Hello Kitty shaped cookies, decorated mini-cakes, and hello kitty cups. And then the Hello Kitty apartment with a Hello Kitty shower head and toilet, bathrobe, I mean, this chick was Everywhere! The possibilities are endless, and ALG can dream big!
Anyways, after the show, we went Lela and Ken's to have dinner. Avery LOVED playing with all of Spencers toys, playing and following him around their house. So cute!
They sat on the couch and had apple chunks together. Avery watched Spencer and learned how to use her two front teeth to bite off pieces instead of shoving the whole wedge in her mouth. Well that's nice!

You're so cool, Uncle Ken!
We left the Yam Fam Compound with a bottle of warm milk, which she only drank half of, but then she cried and whined, refusing to just fall asleep, and cranky cuz she was super tired from taking only one nap til noon. I had to go to Last Resort/Plan B, which was to take out my iPhone app "Itsy Bitsy Spider" which puts her in a trance, until she finally fell asleep but not till we were pretty much home. Then she passed out till morning. But WHY avery, WHY waking up at 6am? no fun for Mommy!
Anyways, the next day, we chilled at home and I had Howard drag in the christmas tree (along with mutterings and complaints) and all the fixings. Christmas is here!! Of course this year there are some differences than the other years - we have to think of potential safety hazards, etc. So the glass ornaments are hung only from mid-height to top of the tree. Everything below that was teddy bears and plastic balls. I was going to take out a Christmas trainset that my 3rd aunt and my cousins bought for her last year, but quickly thought otherwise as she proceeded to take the train rails and whack her face with it as she tried to figure out what it was.
Aww, the Holidays are here! Happy Holidays everyone!

We also have 2 polar bears on the lawn right now, way before anyone else on the block has started decorating.
Ruby is crazy.
for the record, those are baby polar bears, and they need their mommy, which is in storage in our warehouse. Howard still needs to bring the mommy bear back home.
