Avery at 15 months

I don't know how the last 3 months seem to have flown by so quickly. Avery is now 15 months old, a full-blown toddler complete with "No!s", tantrums, big smiles, high fives, and first molars!

After much pondering, I decided to let Avery get the flu shot. If we come across the H1N1 vaccine, I will let her have it. But if not, its no big deal. I got the H1N1 vaccine already (thanks to some wonderful people), and its enough to know that I won't have to risk bringing it home to her. She's not really in a situation where she is surrounded by germs on a daily basis, i.e. daycare or preschool - she's just at home, with one person all day. So its no big deal. Plus, I'd rather not take the risk of an adverse vaccine reaction on her, she's so little, and she already has easily a dozen other vaccines swimming in her tiny immune system.

Waiting at the pediatrician's office. We're getting a bunch of shots today!

Pants come off as we wait for the doctor! She's been into sitting on things as her "chair"s - the stairs, the lower display shelf of a Babies R Us or Target, her Dora the Explorer chair. Today it is the stepping stool in the doctor's room.

We had to wait a while, so I had to resort to taking out my iPhone which I downloaded an app called "itsy bitsy spider" which she can touch the spider and he sings and climbs up a water spout and gets rained down and the sun comes out, etc. Its pretty cool and stops her whining like magic. I like efficiency!

We got 4 shots today - 2 on each loafy thigh. Including the 2nd flu shot, Hep A, HiB, DiTP. Yeesh. She's pretty much up to date now, except for MMR, which I'm holding off until later. Thank goodness she takes her shots like a champ. Poor kid, my heart breaks watching her upset. But Michelle the nurse is quick and as soon as she's done, Avery is done crying too, back to eating her cheerios and fishies.

15 month stats:
Weight: 22 lbs 4 oz 50th percentile
Height: 32 inches 75th percentile
Head: 19 inches 90th percentile

Big head, small long body. Like a lollipop!

Milestones:
- Can sit in high chair and self-feed bite-sized foods as long as it is tasty enough
- Fave Foods of the Moment: Buttered Pasta Wheels, FRENCH FRIES, plain white rice
- LOVES drinking water from her sippy straw cup. Will drink nothing else but water from a sippy cup.
- Starting to play pretend, like feeding stuff to her stuffed doll, Maddy, which she calls Mama, kissing her, feeding water and food to her giant stuffed Hippo.
-Very attached to Maddy - desperately demands her before she goes to sleep or nap, falls asleep with her in her arms
- Starting to take an interest in drawing and coloring. I bought these washable bath markers for her to draw up a storm in the bathtub, and ever since then she's been into her "ma" for markers
- Finally ok with water in her face (to a certain extent) - its always been pretty tough to give her a bath without her crying to get out once she knew the cup of water was going down her head, even though water wouldn't get in her face. But ever since the markers, she's been too busy playing in the bath, with her cups and "Happy Face" cups that it takes me a while to convince her to come out of the bath!

Feeding Maddy!

-she gets fussy sometimes, as of late. Especially after a nap, or if she's cranky and tired. Or if you're trying to wipe her face and hands, which she HATES. Oh, and putting on diapers and clothes too. The noise level in our house has gone up a few decibels in the past couple months.

- Gets upset when the babysitter comes in the morning, because she knows thats when I have to leave her. Whines for bao Bao (hug) but then she's fine when we go outside to say our goodbyes, waving bye bye to me and kiss kiss

- LOVES Elmo. Elmo Elmo Elmo! We went to Toys R Us last night and played with some Elmo Live and Tickle Me Elmo. She saw him and said "Elmo! Elmo!" and then smiled and danced. heh

- LOVES slides. She loved playing on Tyler's slide a couple months ago at his house. And last night when she saw one at Toys R Us, she ran over with the BIGGEST smile on her face (then tripped and fell :( but she was ok!) and wouldn't stop sliding down. hehe

- The kid speaks quite alot of words now. Which is nice, because now instead of guessing what she wants, she tells you. But you problem is she can't make up her mind. So when she insists she is "all done!" with her food, she's also got another piece of pasta in hand and proceeds to stuff it in her mouth. And when she says she wants to "Shui jiao" (sleep), you still need to check the time and make sure its time to sleep, otherwise you may get a crying fit as you put her down.

-Starting to transition to 1 nap a day. For the past week she's been refusing to nap in the afternoon, which leaves her napless from noon clear through her bedtime at 8:30pm. Of course by then her eyes are red and a bit glazed over, and she's inclined to be clumsy and falling over. But she'll still take 2 naps a day on days that she wakes up too early or is just super tired.

- She's a happy and social kid, always excited to meet new people, anyone who smiles at her gets a high five, a little dance, and a emphatic hand wave "HI!!" maybe even a kiss if you're lucky. hehe
HEEEY!!! I'm having breakfast with Auntie Cindy and Uncle Kevin! (While wearing Uncle Henry's UCLA hoodie!)
