Cal vs UCLA game & Pumpkin Patch!

This weekend was quite exciting! On Saturday, we had the Gang over at our house to watch the Cal and UCLA game. I prepared a slab of yellowtail sashimi, and korean tacos - marinated short ribs (I love Super H, store-bought premarinated boneless!) with some korean style salsa/relish, wrapped in corn tortillas. Thanks for the recipe, Sharon! delicious. And Chris, our designated chef, brought a carload of food to make roasted pork belly with a red cabbage coleslaw and special sauce, wrapped in chinese gua baos, which are these white pillowy buns in shapes of tacos so you can stuff things inside. The blend of melty goodness, we all loved it!

Everyone look at the camera! Avery and Jonah got distracted
Luis arrived dressed in Cal gear, cake and bobas in hand. What a great guest! Thanks Luis! He also got Howard a gift card to Ten Ren's for his birthday. LOL genius!

We were all so excited to hang out that I don't even remember actually watching the game. But I'm definitely glad that Cal kicked UCLA's ass. SUPER HARD. 45-26. Nuff said.

The Jonah Show!
Hallo Handsome!He's so charming
and funny!
and attentive. Look at him smiling at me!Stop copying me Jonah! I started it!

We tried getting them to sit still together. Jonah was much more cooperative than Avery (its nice, those days when you put them down in one place and they stay there! aside from when he tips over, hee hee), who had just woken up from a nap and a smidge grumpy. So the mommies stepped in! Is it me, or is Jonah seriously gaining on Avery with the headsize? at 4 months?! One thing's for sure, Jonah's popeye forearms are definitely as big as Avery's already, who's started slimming down. Pudgy cuteness!! I just noticed that Jonah's got a hand on Avery. Sheesh, so territorial already! hehe

Sunday morning, we went to the Cal Poly Pomona Pumpkin Festival! I'm so glad we listened to Elaine and went in the morning. We got there at 10am and it was sunny but still nice outside. But within 2 hours it got really really hot!
Fields of pumpkins of every shape and size! As you can see, Avery's cheeks were turning the same color as the temperature rose.
She was a bit overwhelmed by the sheer number of pumpkins, some as big as half her size. She kept exclaiming "apple! apple!" and I would correct her and say "Sweetie, those are pumpkins! they are bigger than apples" and she would be quiet for a minute, then start saying apo apo! again. Sure honey, they are really big apples!

When i put her down, she would be a little nervous, so she wanted to hold my hand, as you can see in the picture above. But she eventually warmed up to the pumpkins, banging on them like drums

pat pat! pat pat on the apples!

Whew! Hot day! Avery cops a squat on a pumpkin.

Poser!

Eventually it got too hot and she was super cranky cuz of a delayed nap. She would not sit in her stroller and would not walk, so we ended up having to hold her and walk the mile from the patch to our car. She is not kind to our backs, that's for sure!

We came home, had some lunch, and she took a monster nap at 1;30pm till almost 5. YIKES! I guess that heat just drained out her energy!

We finished off the weekend with a dinner with Grandma and Grandpa at BJs. Ugh, it has started. What everyone had been warning us about. That when they start walking, there is no more sitting still at restaurants, to enjoy it while it lasted. We had gone through 13 months without a hitch, so we were unprepared for when 14th month came by and now she refuses to sit still at restaurants, whining to go down, and if you don't, then you will enjoy the sounds of a wailing toddler. Sigh.
Everyone Hi five!!
